Michael Marks has lived in Asia since 1998, and has been involved in several billion dollars of transactions in the Asia-Pacific region, including as a principal, investor or advisor. He has worked with several leading global companies and institutions on their investments and business development in Asia, particularly in China, as well as their strategic development, M&A, distribution, and international capital markets programs. Marks is currently co-founder and managing partner of Innoventure Partners, LLC, a global technology investment and advisory company with offices in the United States, China, India, and Singapore.
Marks formerly served as investor and director of several Chinese companies, both private and publicly listed in the U.S., operating within a range of industries including financial services, clean energy, healthcare, media, agriculture, and real estate, where he was involved at the board level in numerous debt and equity financings, M&A, and other strategic initiatives. Career experience includes as director and former chief executive officer of ATMU Inc., a portfolio company of The Carlyle Group, and a leading financial services outsourcing business in China; president and director of Middle Kingdom Alliance Corporation, a U.S. listed company, which invested in, and merged to form, Funtalk China Holdings Limited, China’s leading specialty wireless device retailer and distributor; co-founder and managing director of the China practice of Sonnenblick-Goldman, a New York based investment banking firm; CEO of Metro Education and Metro Corporate Training, one of China’s earliest internationally-owned education and training companies; partner at Horwath Asia Pacific, a global financial and management advisory firm; and manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers, a leading global audit and financial services firm. Marks lives in Shanghai, China and speaks fluent Mandarin.
